I just purchased a Samsung UN65MU6300 TV and I’d like to use my old Bose Lifestyle 12 surround sound system for external audio as it’s still running strong. Issue is that Bose Lifestyle 12 only takes Analog (L/R) input and TV only has digital audio (optical) cable output and HDMI (ARC) cable input.

Can a surround sound system work on TV?
The digital input will preserve any discrete digital 5.1 audio. Keep in mind, however, that not ALL TV programming has surround sound audio, and many that do make little use of it. Hope this helps. I have a similar situation to Steve’s. We moved our Bose Life style 12 system to hook up a plasma TV. After I re-connected the system, only left and right speaks have sound no. There is no sound from sub woofer and center and rear speakers.
