Can you connect Soundbar without HDMI ARC?

If you want to connect a soundbar to the TV without HDMI or optical, you have two options: go high-tech with a wireless connection or mid-tech with 3.5 mm aux or RCA cables. You can also use an auxiliary device to convert coaxial cables to another type of connection.

Does HDMI ARC work with optical?

HDMI ARC and optical cables both share the same purpose. So far, so good. The only significant difference in terms of function is that an optical cable won’t transmit video. But this shouldn’t be an issue, since you’ve already got video on your HD television.

What if there is no HDMI ARC?

If you TV does not have ARC port then you will have to use optical, as normal HDMI port does not support both way data transfer for audio to go out of it. The optical and HDMI ports will both produce 5.1 audio. The HDMI port would be needed to produce Atmos audio.

Since ARC was introduced in 2009, it has become a very common standard, and you’ll find it on virtually all TVs, soundbars and receivers sold in recent years. Anything that works with the HDMI 1.4 standard should support ARC, but check the documentation for your specific devices to be sure.

Which one is better HDMI ARC or optical?

Both HDMI and optical pass digital audio from one device to another. Both are better than analog (the red and white cables). The biggest difference is that HDMI can pass higher-resolution audio, including the formats found on Blu-ray: Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio.

How does a soundbar connect to a TV?

When connecting an HDMI cable from a TV to a soundbar, you must use the TV’s HDMI ARC input. HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) sends the audio signal from the TV to the soundbar. An HDMI ARC port can be used as a regular HDMI input, but as mentioned, it doubles as an audio output.
