Does Apple TV 1st generation still work?
If you really have an Apple TV (1st generation), the white/aluminum 7.7″ box from 2007, then these are now considered obsolete, meaning Apple has discontinued all hardware service.
Why does my Apple TV not work with my Denon?
If it’s set to anything else, the setup will not work. Now the Apple TV 4K and all other devices work seamlessly though the Denon receiver and the Apple TV is outputting 4k and HDR with no issues. What model is your Denon receiver. I can’t get my 1909 Denon to work with the Apple TV 4K because of the missing optic audio output.
What should I Set my Denon receiver to?
If I set it to DD 5.1, then play a movie in Plex with TrueHD or DTS-HD audio, the Denon receiver lights up as “Dolby Digital” and I get surround sound. If I set the ATV4 to “Best Quality Available” and play a Plex movie with TrueHD or DTS-HD audio, the Denon lights up with “Multi Channel In”.

I found the solution after digging deep into the Denon Setup menus and the LG OLED menus. First I enabled HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color on one of the LG HDMI inputs. That made the Apple TV 4k work through the Denon A/V receiver, but consequently caused all the other sources hooked up to the receiver not to work.
Can a Denon receiver decode a plex movie?
I don’t think the ATV4 can’t decode it, but looking at the ATV4 settings there’s an option under audio for either “Best Quality Available” or “Dolby Digital 5.1”.
