What causes brown spots on my cherry tree leaves?

Cherry leaf spot is caused by the fungus, Blumeriella jaapii (previously called Coccomyces hiemalis). The fungus overwinters in dead leaves on the ground. In early spring (about petal fall), fungal fruiting bodies called apothecia develop in these leaves.

How do you treat a rusted cherry tree?

A lime and sulfur fungicide is typically used for cherry rust control. It should be applied all over the tree, once the fruit has been harvested, to both sides of the leaves, all branches and twigs, and the trunk.
