How do you use a Bose Acoustimass subwoofer with a receiver?
You can use Bose Sub woofer with any receiver. There is a set of “Audio Input” jacks on the back of the Bose. Connect the plugs on the one end of the audio cables to the “Audio Input” jacks on the back of the Bose. Connect the plugs on the other end of the audio cable to an “Audio Out” jack on the receiver.
Do you need subwoofer for Bose Acoustimass 5?
I have an acoustimass 5 series II purchased back in the 1994 (it has two side cubes and the bose subwoofer), do the cubes need to be matched with bose subwoofer? Or can I purchase a mid-cost powered subwoofer from (Polk, JBL, Klipsch, etc.)? I have low cost KLH center and rear speakers, which I am looking to replace too.
How does a Bose Acoustimass system work?
The speaker wires go from the receiver to the subwoofers then out of the subwoofers to the other speakers. One subwoofer has connections for the front and center speakers, and the other one has connections for the rear surround speakers.
Is there a subwoofer in a Bose system?
The Bose system does not have a subwoofer. It separates the low range sounds into the bass module, and passes on the high range sounds into the small cube speakers. You could always buy a powered subwoofer and add it to the system by connecting it to the receiver.

If you set the cross over point to 100 HTz on the receiver, then this module will cover the 100 to 200 Htz frequencies. If you get rid of it all together, asking an acutual sub to go up to the 200 HTz range is asking it to do too much…
