I installed an Onkyo TXNR-616 into the system. He still wanted the TVs in the other rooms to work so I ran his PS3, Apple TV, and Cable box into the 4×4. From there I went out to the receiver, and the other TVs. The receiver’s monitor output went out of the receiver, back into the switch.

Are there any known problems with Onkyo receivers?
It goes back to Onkyo and they “test it” for a couple of hours and it checks out “OK” and send it back, only to have the problem re occur after a few weeks. Anyone have any input as to what the problem could be? My wife says I can’t do sarcasm. She says I just sound like an a$$hole. This is a very well known problem with Onkyo receivers.
Is it possible to connect a Yamaha Onkyo to a TV?
Not sure if its possible now, but I’d suggest a Yamaha over the Onkyo. You can set it up for HDMI pass through so you can lower the receiver off, and video AND audio will pass to the tv. Turn the receiver on, and only video passes through.
Why is my Onkyo tx-nr609 suddenly no sound?
The loaned tx-nr616 has now started to become intermittent on start up for dislaying images to the tv. Looks like the hdmi board is starting to fail on this one now. Spoke to richer sounds and they will give me another loan machine. Still no parts available for the tx-nr609

Ive sent it in for repair at richer sounds and they’ve loaned me a tx-nr616 until mine is repaired. Thumbs up to richer sounds so far. Well, fingers crossed for you!
Which is the best soldering iron for Onkyo?
Electrolytics are notorious for this sort of behaviour (especially if under specified – Onkyo clearly penny pinching). 100uf 105c 25v ones are available for a few £ on Ebay, so if you are prepared to get stuck in with the soldering iron this could be a quick/cheap solution (mine is outside warranty).

How can I tell what version of onkyo remote control I have?
You can judge whether older or newer by the first three digits. To check your firmware version, press the “Home” button on your remote control. Highlight “F/W Update” or select the “Firmware Update” icon and press enter. Your current firmware version will be displayed on the front panel of your A/V receiver as well as your TV screen.
