Why does my mower keep throwing the deck belt?
The drive belt may come off a riding mower because it is damaged or loose. If broken or worn, the belt can break while the engine runs, and it can fly off at a great velocity, which is highly dangerous. Check the belt for looseness, cracks, fraying or separation from the rest of the assembly, and replace if necessary.

Remove the belt cover from the outer pulleys. Unhook the idler spring, then remove the nut and bolt which secure the deck idler pulley with the belt keeper. Using a 3/8 drive ratchet in the square hole of the right idler bracket, separate the idler pulleys then remove the left pulley. Replace the old mower deck belt with a new Cub Cadet OEM belt.

If while mowing with your Cub Cadet riding mower the machine just stops moving, the PTO drive belt has probably broken or is too stretched out. The drive belt is wrapped around the drive pulley, which is bolted to the PTO coming out of the base of the engine. This main drive belt extends around the deck pulleys.
