Is the Yamaha RX v665 a good receiver?

A while back I had the opportunity to review one of Yamaha’s entry-level receivers, the RX-V665. While the feature-set was impressive for the price, the overall sound and build quality was about what one would expect from a low-priced receiver, namely, sort-of-OK.

What’s the name of the new Yamaha receiver?

Last year, Yamaha announced an all-new line of receivers dubbed “Aventage” that would buck that trend with a no-holds-barred emphasis on sound quality. Recently I had the chance to review the second-from-the-top of the Aventage line, the RX-A2000.

Is the sixth channel discrete on the Yamaha rx-v1?

The sixth channel is discrete, but the RX-V1 can’t decode it. It is not clear yet whether or not discrete 6.1 DVDs will have matrix versions of the sixth channel on the disc for matrix-only receivers. There are also Neo:6 and DPL-II coming.

Is the Yamaha rx-v1 DD or DTS 6.1 decoded?

This is Yamaha’s first receiver with 6.1 decoding support (it has lots of other new stuff too, which are described below). It decodes the DD 6.1 and DTS 6.1 matrix formats. A simple button on the remote turns on the 6.1 Matrix Decoding. DTS has released DTS Discrete 6.1 which is not a matrix format.

What’s the name of the Yamaha flagship receiver?

Yamaha’s flagship RX-V1 receiver has enough power and flexibility to float anyone’s boat. Flagship is one of those words like ultimate and reference that just can’t seem to get any respect these days. The next time we see last year’s “ultimate” product superseded by this year’s “improved” model, I think we should all complain to the manufacturer.
