What does PCM on my receiver mean?

Pulse-Code Modulation
Pulse-Code Modulation (PCM) and the Dolby Digital® technology refer to different types of digital audio recordings. PCM is the conventional method for converting analog audio into digital audio. The PCM audio recorded on DVD is a two-channel digital, stereo audio track.

How do I change audio settings on PCM?

Steps

  1. Press the HOME button, then select [Settings].
  2. Select [Sound] → [Digital Audio Out] → [Auto] or [PCM]. Select [Auto] if the device connected via DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) is compatible with Dolby Digital. Select [PCM] if the device is not compatible with Dolby Digital.

Which is better PCM or Spdif?

SPDIF can’t carry multichannel (surround) PCM, it is limited to PCM up to 2 channels. I believe SPDIF can do 2 channel PCM, Dolby Digital (5.1), DTS(5.1), DTS-ES(6.1, 7.1 etc). The choice usually is Auto or PCM for SPDIF output. I’m guessing Digital on your TV is equivalent to Auto.

How to turn off PCM and decoder off display in reciever-audio?

Once the LCDTV is turned off, you need to turn the AVR OFF then ON, and then go into Display > Screen Resolution from the control panel and enable the second screen which appears to be disabled Since HDMI audio is tied to a video output, the video must be sent for the HDMI audio device to appear in Playback Devices

Why does my Yamaha HDMI receiver not work?

It appears to be the receiver, a Yamaha RX-v371, which multiplexes the cable box and DVD ‘s HDMI to a single connection on the TV. I’m afraid somethinghas degraded in the receiver- any ideas how to fix?

What does a PCM mean on a receiver?

This is normal and not a fault. PCM means that the receiver is being fed PCM audio, either stereo or multichannel (check how many speaker icons are lit on the display). PCM is a straight digital stream for each audio channel. You should only be seeing this if:

What to do if your TV does not support HDMI?

When a TV that supports HDMI-CEC does not detect that a HDMI-CEC compatible device is connected, it will tell a HDMI-CEC receiver to switch to TV Input. You can disable HDMI-CEC. But that will also disable ARC. And you will have to add another cable to get audio from the TV to the receiver.

Why is my Onkyo receiver playing sound as PCM and not?

As above the Player (your PC) will be capable of decoding the HD audio ‘on-board’ so sends LPCM to the AVR! If you reset the PC to Bistream the wee HD audio logo will light up on the AVR – the sound will stay the same though and potentially you lose any ‘secondary’ audio you are trying to access on the BD disc.

How does PCM work on a Blu ray player?

If you set the Blu-ray Disc player to output audio as PCM, the player performs the audio decoding of all Dolby/Dolby TrueHD and DTS/DTS-HD Master Audio related soundtracks internally. Then, it sends the decoded audio signal in an uncompressed form to the home theater receiver.
