When did the Bose acoustic wave I come out?

My system is an Acoustic Wave I with CD, built in 2004. There is a new Acoustic Wave II available that supposedly addresses some of the limitations of the original system by using digital amplification. I inspected the new version at an airport Bose store, and (of course) it sounded great with the music they were playing.
