Magnolias are very susceptible to a disease called verticillium wilt, which we also see frequently on maple, ash, smoke tree and redbud. This disease is caused by two, common soil-borne fungal organisms that get into the vasculature resulting in the plant being unable to take up water, hence the “wilt” in the name.
