Amp distortion (clipping) can be caused by a signal maximum level exceeding the power line voltage, and it can be fixed by reducing the signal level (turning down the volume), or using a compressor or AGC circuit to remove loud transients.

Why does my amp sound crunchy?

Speaker crackling is almost always caused by a connection problem. The first thing to do is to check the wire connections between the amplifier and the terminals on the speaker itself. If the wire has a tendency to get moved around, perhaps by a cat or dog, it’s a possibility something has come loose.

Why is the left channel on my preamp so low?

I increase the level of the Left channel on my preamp and I can hear the music but very very low. I swapped speaker positions and the problem stayed in the Left channel.
